What this site is, what it is not, and what you can rely on.
The short version. We are a price comparison site, not a shop. We do not sell guitars and you do not buy anything from us. Our prices are captured by an automated sweep and can be out of date or wrong — always check on the retailer's own page before you buy.
This site is operated by Paul Flett, a sole trader based in England, trading as The String Gauge. Contact: info@thestringgauge.co.uk.
By using the site you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use it.
The String Gauge collects publicly listed prices from UK guitar retailers, records how those prices move, and presents the comparison. It is an information service. That is all it is.
No contract of sale is ever formed with us. When you click through and buy, your contract is with that retailer and nobody else. Payment, delivery, warranty, faults, returns, cancellation and your consumer rights are all matters between you and them, under their terms.
We cannot cancel your order, chase your delivery, process a return or refund you. If something goes wrong with a purchase, the retailer is who you need.
Prices, stock and product details on this site are captured automatically from retailers' public listings, usually overnight. This means:
Always check the price and availability on the retailer's own page before buying. That is the price you will pay. We give you no warranty that anything on this site is accurate, complete or current, and we are not liable for a price shown here that turns out to be wrong. Comparisons and any “cheapest” label are our opinion based on the data we hold, not a guarantee.
We cover six UK retailers. We do not claim to cover the whole market, and a guitar may well be cheaper somewhere we do not track.
Some outbound links earn us commission at no extra cost to you. Commission plays no part in how retailers are ranked or which is shown as cheapest. Full disclosure here.
You may use this site freely for your own personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not:
We may withdraw access if you break these terms.
The design, written content, and the compiled price database and its history are ours and are protected by copyright and database right. Product names, retailer names, logos and trade marks belong to their respective owners and are used only to identify whose product or price is being described. Product photography is supplied by the retailers and remains theirs.
If you own material used here and want it removed, email info@thestringgauge.co.uk and we will deal with it promptly.
We link out to retailers and occasionally to other third parties. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, their products or their privacy practices. A link is not an endorsement.
We do not promise the site will always be available or uninterrupted. It is run by one person and may be taken down, changed or suspended at any time without notice.
The site is provided “as is”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of it or your reliance on anything on it — including any loss caused by an inaccurate price, an out-of-date listing, a product being unavailable, or a purchase you made from a retailer.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are not affected by anything on this page.
We may update these terms. The version on this page at the time you use the site is the one that applies, and the date at the top tells you when it last changed.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK, you keep the right to bring proceedings in your own jurisdiction.
